I really was pleasently surprised to see Tyson Hesse make yet another one of his wonderful animated shots, this time using the modern cast and aesthetics.

He made a really great job balancing Sonic between being an in-your face show off but still struggling to keep up with the tough competition of Team Rose. He even came close to loose control of his vehicle while showing off to mah boy Big, who the entire time was just a chill dude who wasn’t impressed, yet still gave him and Tails a friendly salute. (Big is just too pure and innocent to have any ill feelings towards others, even on a competition)

Amy was just cute and confident, giving Sonic an affectionate sly look, but also showing that she meant business in the race and was not going to hold back her punches, not even with her darling Sonic.

Tails really didn’t do much this time around other than being taken out by the fiery rose, however Knuckles was just funny with his usual hot-blooded and impulsive shenanigans, saving Sonic from a bomb that Omochao threw at him, and rolling back into his vehicle, giving a thumbs up despite being covered in bruises and missing a teeth, showing that he really is tougher than leather. XD

Though the really star of the show was Big, who makes a stop in the middle of the race the very moment his attention is caught by that juicy Froggy merchandise (lol, they’re actually selling it. XD) and his little adventure as he tries to cross the road and the moment the Eggpawn shows a sign that it’s free to further seduce the gentle giant, Big causes a crash from the other competitors, unwillingly giving his team the victory (for now).

Then there’s the end scene, with Amy going back to check on the chao who like Big, just stand watching all the merchandise when the Eggpawn hits a button to pop a variety of hammers to also get the pink gerbil’s attention.

Really hope Hesse can keep doing more works for the franchise, since I don't think there is better way to promote new Sonic games than what a very talented artist with lots of love for both his work and the Sonic  franchise can deliver.

Some people: "Why do you like Amy? She's not a badass like the other strong, more competent female characters nor has a superform. Plus she's pink and girly".

Me: *Thinking about the hammer wielding hedgie that started as a damsel, and through her own adventures, has grown to go past her natural limitations and gained the courage to stand her ground and fight for those she cares about as a true hero who overcomes and conquers her fears. Who shows compassion not only for those in need, but extends it even to the bad guys themselves, helping them change for the better and find redemption. The character that can both be bubbly and clumsy with just about the right touch of sass, as well as being insightful and understanding when needed. The underdog with a strong personality and unwielding determination who displayed genuine leadership qualities and led other civvies like her into a dangerous rescue mission rather than having them all be made up all of a sudden because of pushing stupid favoritisms. Who needs no magical candy-colored rocks nor super saiyan transformations to make a difference in the world because her optimist heart and her faith in what YOU can do and become is all she needs. The character who by fully embracing the femenine traits of her girly personality, proves that you don't need to reject them to become a strong character who just so happens to be a female and that heroes come in all shapes and sizes* "She just has that appeal".

One thing I think the last episode of Sonic Mania Adventures did that was never shown before with Metal Sonic was giving hints of his personality. This is something I'd really would like to see expanded in the future since IMO, Metal Sonic is a unique antagonist in that he is neither good nor evil... he simply follows the programming that was created by Eggman.

It would be very interesting to see things from his perspective, mlike, how under Eggman, the only things he knows to do is to cause distress to others, and for the most part, is treatedby Dr. Eggman as no more than just one more tool, maybe with some slight preference and pride due to it's capabilities, but in the end, Metal Sonic continues to be just that: a tool.

In the last episode of Sonic Mania Adventures where he feels depressed after being defeated by the heroes and forsaken by his creator, Metal Sonic is rescued by Amy in a very ironic twist, as Amy was the girl hedgehog the robot once kidnapped under Eggman's orderes to bait Sonic into a trap. This was the forst time that someone had ever shown concern for him and being treated not as an enemy or an underling, but as a person who deserves a chance to be happy, reason why Amy returned him to Eggman as she had felt sorry for the abandoned robot, not holding any grudge for it's past actions.

In the animated short, we can see how Metal expresses his depression by being indifferent to everything around him, turning his gaze away as if wanting to be left alone, his annoyance when Amy puts the ribbon, but also, there is something about how Metal looks at Amy after she rings the bell and runs away, right before she stops to return and handle Metal the flower. It is a look that seems to express confussion, as if wondering why Amy bothered to do all of this... Then there is the flower, which he just contemplates as if wondering the meaning of such gesture, something he continues to do even after Eggman takes him in.

I think that there is potential for an interesting story for Metal Sonic and how he perceives the three key characters in this robot's existance: Eggman, his creator and master. Sonic, the "rival" whom his programming dictates is his enemy and finally, Amy who he once kidnapped, and who can make a very big change in how he sees things, presenting a completely opposite view of the world from what he only experiences under Eggman. Particularly, with how Metal is loyal to Eggman in what is a one-way relation as Eggman would simply discard Metal if he were to fail, and how Amy treats Metal would make the robot realize it's own worth and value that of others, perhaps even rebeling against his programming and braking free from Eggman.

However, since Metal Sonic is meant to be an antagonist and there is a status quo for all of the characters, the only ending for such a story can only be one of two: either Metal Sonic dies in a noble sacrifice (like in the OVA), or is captured and has his CPU completely whipped clean, returning him to being nothing more than a killing machine. Either way, Metal would end up being a tragic figure.

When the new Sonic Mania Adventures was announced, I was pretty much like Metal Sonic: didn't care for it.

For some time I couldn't shake this feeling of being left behind seeing how the game essentially forgot/ignored Amy (she didn't even got a cameo as herself, but rather as a doll that you destroy).

But then, one of my friends told me to give it a chance and I have to say, this is one of those times when I go into something expecting for nothing, only to be surprised in the best way possible.

I absolutely adored this episode since it featured Amy, who many already know is my favorite character in the entire rranchise (along with Dr. Eggman). And not only that, but the episode also featured her in a way that gave me the feels and warmed my heart by doing what this holidays are all about. They did Amy's character justice with the right combination of funny moments as well as those that can warm even the heart of her detractors.

I don't know about you, but I think this episode was filled of very subtle nods, like the flicky inside Metal (lol, how did it survived inside Metal for months? XD) which immediately made me think of SA1, along with how Amy picks up Metal's depression and despite still being afraid of him due to the events of CD, she did what no one saw comming: she not only SAVES Metal from a falling tree, but brings him back to Eggman, and all because Amy believes that even the heartless (figuratively and literally) deserve to be happy and experience compassion. I like to think that maybe, just maybe, Amy might have awakened somthing in Metal, who was just confussed by Amy's actions as it was the first time someone treated him not as a weapon or a tool, but as a person.

There definitively was no better way to end the year for the Sonic social media than by giving us this gift, especially for Amy fans since it's their way to show that they haven't forgot about our favorite pink gerbil thing. XD

So go watch it right now, give them a like and since the video is on their official channel, give them a shout for playable Amy in the future too! Let's let them hear our voice so that great things can happen soon. ^_^
